Can I change the type of membership I have?

Yes.  You can change your type of membership at anytime. We will work with you to meet your current needs, making it easy for you to manage and grow your business.  We simply transfer your deposit to your new space, based on current availability. 

When is my rent due?

Rent is due on the 1st day of the month. 

What if I pay my bill late?

We charge $25 on the 6th of the month if you have an outstanding balance, and $5.00 a day until fully paid. 

How can I pay my bill?

The easiest way is to set up free automatic (ACH) payments through your checking account.  We also accept payments by check in the office and have an online payment system that allows you to pay via debit, credit card or bank transfer.

What will my mailing address be?

Your mail can be addressed to your personal name or business name at our building’s street address followed by your membership # (Ask the community manager for your membership number.) We’ll sort the mail and place it in the mail station and store your packages behind the front desk.

What about conference rooms? How much is it, how often can I use them, and how do I reserve one?

Conference rooms are a free, shared resource for our community members.  Each membership is allowed 5 bookings per month. Our goal is to make conference rooms available to all members when needed.

Can I reserve extra conference room hours?

Once you have used your allotted time, you can no longer reserve a conference room. However, if conference rooms are not reserved or in use, SURGE members may use them to take calls. 

How do I reserve a conference room?

Please use the SURGE Meeting Room calendar in Office RnD to reserve conference rooms.

Do you offer virtual offices? How about meeting space or event spaces for single time use/ rental?

Please see the Community Manager if you are interested in a virtual office or single rentals of space.

Can I reserve the cafe for private functions?

The cafe is available after-hours for Commons, Dedicated Desk, and Private Office Member’s use.  Please see the community manager for details or to make arrangements.

I would like to use the projector for a meeting or presentation, what should I do?

Please make arrangements with the community manager in person or via email at least 1 day in advance for weekday use and by Friday morning for weekend use. 2 or more days in advance notice is appreciated. It is easy for us to show you how it works with a few days extra notice 🙂 In order to have access to the projector you also need to reserve our large conference room, which has a pull down screen for projecting onto the wall. 

Do I get my own desk?

We offer both 'dedicated desks' and private offices, where you would have your own personal space, and commons or cafe memberships where the seating arrangements are not fixed.  Come for a tour and pick the option that would work best for you.

I have a Café or Commons Membership, is there an area where I cannot sit?

Private offices and dedicated desks are someone’s personal area, and are only available to the member or company that has that specific space rented. 

What do I need to bring with me?

You should bring your WiFi-ready computer, cell phone and chargers.  Many members also like to bring headphones, a note pad and pen or pencil.  We have miscellaneous office supplies like scissors, staplers, tape and paperclips available for your use. 

What type of internet do you provide?

Where can I park?

Free street parking is available along both Tacoma Avenue and 25th Street. We also have a limited number of inside parking spaces available for an additional charge.  Ask our community manager for specifics. 

Can I bike or bus to work?

Yes! Over 15 different bus lines stop within 10 blocks of our building and we are just a short walk from the Sounder Station and the free Tacoma Link.  Members can also park their bikes outside of SURGE on our bike rack or store them in the downstairs garage.

Can I meet with clients?

Yes. We have two small conference rooms and 1 large conference room perfect for client meetings. 

Can my client stay in the coworking space after a meeting?

If your guest would like to stay and work in the space they will need to purchase a $15 day pass from the Community Manager.

Can I leave my stuff?

Yes, you can leave your stuff during the day.  If you do not have a dedicated desk or private office, please don't leave your items out at the end of the day or when you will be away for more than an hour- take them with you or put them away in a locker.  We offer a limited number of lockers for our members on a first come, first serve basis. If you have a dedicated desk or private office you are welcome to bring a desktop computer and other items that will help make you more productive and/or personalize your space.  We don't take any responsibility for missing items and your belongings are your own responsibility and not insured in any way by us. 

What furniture does a private office include?

Your office includes desks, chairs, and filing cabinets. For many, that’s all you need and you are ready to get started.  If you need something more you are also welcome to bring in additional or alternate furniture. Contact your community manager if you intend to make changes to the setup and they’ll help you make it happen.

What about using the printer?

The network printer is offered as a convenience to members.  Currently we offer 25 free prints a month and charge our cost of .05 for each additional copy.  Please use an outside printer for very large quantity print jobs.

Can I talk on the phone?

Yes, you can take short phone calls, but please be respectful to those around you. If you need to discuss something confidential, need to raise your voice, or simply need privacy, please step into a meeting room, find an area that is not being used or go outside. If you have to talk on your phone all day, a private office is the best option.

Do I need to clean?

Yes and No.  We take care of weekly cleaning and emptying the dishwasher but you do need to pick up after yourself.  Please rinse and place used dishes in the dishwasher, if you spill something please clean it up and when you are finished using a shared space, please return it to the way you found it.

What about Coffee and Tea?

We love it!  And are happy to provide an ample supply.  If you are the first coffee drinker in the morning, please get us started and throughout the day if you notice that we are running low by all means start an additional pot.  Coffee and hot water in the two thermoses stays hot and fresh for quite a few hours.

Can I bring in my own food?

Yes, feel free to bring in your own food and snacks.  Please label items and remove perishables in a timely manner.

What if I break something or find that something is not working properly?

Please let us know.  You can notify the community manager in person or via email.

Do I need to pay extra for internet or utilities?

No.  We provide high speed internet access free of charge and take care of the utilities, we do ask that you help us reduce waste and conserve energy by using resources responsibly.

What happens when I am the last to leave at night?

We know that great work happens at all times of the day and night and want the SURGE to be available for you to work when inspiration strikes or productivity peeks.  If you are the last to leave the building or floor please turn off the lights and make sure the door is securely locked, including the dead bolt.  The T.V. can stay on.

Do you recycle?

Yes. We do mixed recycling including plastics, paper, aluminum, tin, boxes and cardboard. Glass needs to be separate and can be left under the kitchen sink.  We offer two recycling stations one at the print station and one under the kitchen sink.  At this time we do not offer compost recycling, please help us conserve resources and recycle when possible and avoid putting garbage it the recycling bins.

What is your guest policy?

Members are welcome to have guests during their conference room hours and for occasional visits as your business demands.  If you have a guest or associate that requires continued prolonged visits, please have them apply for their own membership - we keep our cafe membership price extremely low.  You must greet your guests in the cafe area and accompany them throughout their time at the SURGE and remember you are responsible for your guests.

Can I share my entry code with my guests?

No. Your entry code is for your individual use only and may not be shared with anyone.  Please have guests set a time for arrival or call you when they arrive so that you can meet them and let them in. Your guests are your responsibility and should be with you at all times. 

Can I bring my kids?

Quiet, well behaved children are welcome for a brief visit.  If something unexpected comes up and you have a child who needs to be with you for the day and can work quietly by your side, please check-in with us. Children need to be supervised by their parents at all times and children cannot cause an ongoing distraction to other members.

Who works at SURGETACOMA?

We welcome professionals of all kinds to work at SURGE Tacoma. It doesn't matter what you do or how big your company is, not any two SURGE members are the same. We have members from all different fields and fortes, with many people in the startup category, and no matter what our members do, they all bring something to the table, and are a great community of nice, hardworking people.

How do I login to my tenant portal?

How Do I cancel my membership?

-Provide written notice to the Community Manager (an email is fine) that includes your move-out date. 20 days notice is required per your membership agreement.
-Provide a forwarding address so we can return your deposit
-Return any keys to the building, offices, or desks you may have (there is a $25 charge for unreturned keys). Keys can be dropped in the rent box behind the Community Manager’s desk.
-Return garage door opener if you have one. (there is a $25 charge for unreturned door openers)
-If you have an office or desk, please clean it up and turn it over to us as you found it.
-Remove any food or personal items from the kitchen
-Remove any saved banking information from your portal in Office RnD
-Please provide the Postal Service with a forwarding address, we will no longer accept your mail and it will be returned.
